NATURE OF PROJECT: SURVEY & GEOMATICS
CLIENT: SELANGOR DISASTER MANAGEMENT UNIT (SDU), SERVIS EDA
DURATION: JULY 2019
LOCATION: KAPAR, KLANG, SELANGOR
INTRODUCTION
Kampung Tok Muda is located in the district of Klang, Selangor off the coast of Selangor. The area is on a coastal plain that lies between two (2) major river basins in Selangor, the Sg Buloh and Sg. Klang river basins. Kampung Tok Muda faced coastal flood because of high tides. The existing 3.5 km coastal bund made up of lateritic soil stretches along the Sg. Kapar Besar exposed to structural degradation and its accelerated due to land subsidence, intrusion by locals for illegal farming and cattle grazing. The most interesting story of this bund is that crab nests is one of the identified reasons by the local and SDMU that caused the mortification of the coastal bund. Mangrove forest along the coast also degrading result from the illegal loging activities, consequently exposing the bund to coastal erosion and strong wave.
Geomapping Technology Sdn Bhd (GMT) in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) undertaken the project to produce flood hazard map based on the available information and data at the location. Data on past flood events, failure/breaching of the bund, visual evidence obtained during flood, long term tidal and rainfall data and the geographic features of the area collected from SDMU and JPS by UTM. GMT provide the high-resolution digital elevation model (DEM) for the base data of the model, which are based on the orthophotograph data collection from UAV drone survey.
RESULT
ORTHOPHOTOGRAPH
Orthophotographs is one of the product of the survey and used to locate or identified the geographical features such as element at risk at the study area
RESULT
DIGITAL ELEVATION MODEL (DEM)
DEM generated from the UAV drone survey based on the interpolation process of an average elevation data.
These DEM and Orthophotograph used to generate Flood Hazard Map that visualized any area of inundated.
